Old drive in new external enclosure works 10 minutes then disapears
So I bough a Rosewill eSATA USB external HD enclosure and moved an existing drive to it. When I boot up I can see and access the drive fine. After 10-15 min I hear the drive make a click noise and suddenly it disapears from My Computer. I have checked Device and Disk Manager but no sign of it.
Unplugging does nothing, only can see it again after rebooting. Im connected the the eSATA port and dont have the USB plugged in. Any ideas? |

A clicking noise is generally indications of a bad drive. If you see it for a short time, you need to run diagnostic on the drive. The best would be the drive manufactures diagnostic tools. Or you can run chkdsk from within windows.
Right click on My computer then to Manage. Left pane "Disk Management" Find the drive in the right pane and right click then to Properties, Error Checking. Some of the manufactures tools: Seagate Western Digital |

Well, pretty sure its not the drive. I swapped to USB connection and it works fine (even if it is very slow to respond hooked up like this). Only seems to have problems on eSATA connection. Now something I noticed earlier... my mobo has 6 SATA ports inside and 1 eSATA externally next to the LAN port. When I go in BIOS it shows SATA 1-6 and what (if anything) I have hooked to them. It never shows the eSATA that I can find. Im using an ASUS M4A89GTD motherboard.
