Internet Explorer opens by itself

hello i am having a problem with my mothers computer, she unpluged her dsl connection to attach a shorter phone cord to the back of the box and when the phone cord was pluged back in the computer started doing some really weird stuff. we restarted the computer twice and every time windows comes up several errors pop up and internet explorer starts opening a new browser about ever 10 seconds. IE continues to open itself until the computer is shut down again. what can be done to fix this?

Hi truckchick4 Welcome to Cyber Tech Help.
Can you get on the internet now?
Is your connection working again?
Does this happen every time you turn the system on?

I think you may have some malware on your system but im not 100% sure.
Downloads hijack this from here http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
Once downloaded unzip the folder to a place you will remember.
Run the program and click scan and save a log file.

Then go to the cyber safty section of this site and post the log it creates there.
They will help you out futher.

i had the chance to look a little further at the problem and get an idea for what is going on with the limited computer knowledge that i have. i looked in the registry and found that several critical files are missing. the internet connection is disabled as well as most other programs on the computer. i have tired a system restore, using norton go back and reformating the entire computer but none of those options worked.

Are you sure you reformated the computer and not defragmented it?
Reformating and reinstalling XP would of solved the problem so I beleve you have just defragmented.

Do what I said on my last post.
Then Post a log on the cyber safty forum.
