Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Shortcut issue....

In installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware onto Windows 7.

During the install it asked to put a ShortCut on my Quick Task Bar.
I said yes, but after the installation and computer restarted.
The ShortCut wasn't there on the Quick Task Bar.
I then looked through the C: drive and found the file Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Located the EXE program, made a ShortCut, and pinned it to the Quick Task Bar.
The program runs, but I'm getting a shield on the icon.
Plus, every time I click on it to run the program I get the Message:
"Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"
If I click on "Yes" the program runs and it is fine.
Click "No" and it dumps back to the desktop.

Is there a way to get rid of the shield and dumb message easily?
Or should I try uninstalling Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and re-installing it to see if that fixes it?

Try right clicking on the icon you now have in the taskbar, and see if you can unpin it from the taskbar.
Next look for Malwarebytes in the Start menu, when you find it right click on the red M, and then selct Pin To Taskbar.

I looked in the Start Menu.
It wasn't there.
I can only conclude that the original install was bad.
I've uninstalled Malwarebytes and have reinstalled it.
So, far so good.

Right After I did the reinstall.
Malwarebytes did an update and ran it's scanner.
So, I let it finish before checking the Quick Task Bar.

But once again, No Icon in the quick task bar, and No icon in the start menu.
I then looked at the program list.
Found the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware file.
Opened it and found the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. EXE.

Pinned it to the quick task bar.
The Icon doesn't look like the Big Red M.
But when you click on the Icon it turns to the Big Red M.
I then tried changing the Icon.
But Windows 7 won't allow it.

This is getting weird.

If you go to Start>All Programs do you not see a yellow folder icon that says Malwarebytes Anti-Malware? If you see that folder click it to open it, and there you will see the icon with the M on it.

Okay.....
I guess I'm not making myself clear enough.
I'll try again.

Operating System: Windows 7

After Re-installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software.
It ran its "Update Database Information".
Then I ran a 20 minutes scan.
When it finished it's scan, I closed down the program.
I then looked for the Big Red M Icon on the Quick Task Bar.
It wasn't there.
I then proceed to make a Short Cut and place it in the Quick Task Bar.

Making Short Cut

Left Click on: Start Button.
Nothing in the Startup Menu.
Left Click on: All Programs.
Scroll down to file folder: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Left Click on it.
Scrolled down to: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Right Clicked on it.
Scrolled to: Pin to Task Bar.
Left Clicked on it.

On Quick Task Bar there is an Icon, but it isn't the Big Red M.
But when you left click on the Icon it changes to the Big Red M,
and the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware starts up just fine.

Note: I'm no longer getting the shield showing up.
But sometimes a window will come up with the;
"Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"
Before you can run the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Note:
This is my first time messing around with Windows 7.
I've been using Windows XP for years now, and I'm finding this new Windows 7 interface a real pain to work with.

You made yourself clear enough, it's my head cold problem that's causing the problem.

Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"
This is part of the User Account Controls that are in Windows 7. You can adjust the settings by going to the Control Panel>User Accounts, and from there you use a slider to make changes. The User Account Controls are there to help keep your computer more secure, but to some people they can be annoying.
I also used XP for years, and I thought that I would never like Windows 7, but when I finally gave it a fair try I began to use it more and more. I was dual booting XP and Win 7 for almost a year, and finally I did away with XP. I don't regret it.

The: "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"
Has now gone away, now that I turned off the Windows 7 Security Account Watcher.

But the Icon can not be changed on the Desktop, or the Quick Task bar.
It's annoying, in that I installed CCleaner and didn't have this problem.
And I even just got a newer version of CCleaner that I installed without any problems as well.

I'm out of ideas about the icon, because I'm using Win 7 also, and have no problem with the Malwarebytes icon.

When you say "On Quick Task Bar there is an Icon, but it isn't the Big Red M."

What does the icon look like before you click on it to turn it into the M?

Greetings

I'm Samuel Lindsey, Product Manager for Malwarebytes.

The issue you're experiencing, if I'm understanding it correctly, has to do with the fact that the Quick Launch bar by default, does not exist on Windows 7 (hence the reason that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is unable to create a shortcut there during installation).

For additional details, please refer to this page.

Now, as for the issue with User Account Control, it is quite normal to get a UAC prompt when launching mbam.exe, the scanner process for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This is because the program requests administrative level access to the files and folders on your system so that it may scan thoroughly in protected locations, particularly key locations where infections like to hide, and should removal of an infection be required from one of these locations, then it requires admin level privileges for that as well.

I also personally do not recommend turning off User Account Control as it is a very useful feature to help protect your system from unauthorized access by infections and other programs. Additional info on what User Account Control is and how it works can be found here.

Please let me know if there's anything else that I can assist with.

Thanks

It looks like a sheet of paper with a box on the paper with a bunch of colored squares in the box.
Here is a screen shot.

The Quick Task Bar is already there, and it is unlocked.
But it won't load the White on Red M Icon into the Quick Task Bar when I do a Reinstall of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Thus,
I had to go into the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware folder,
and PIN a Short Cut from mbam.exe to the Quick Task Bar.
But the Icon on the Quick Task Bar isn't the White on Red M Icon,
But a generic Icon, that when doubled clicked on.
Turns into the White on Red M Icon on the Quick Task Bar.

As for the User Account Control settings.....
I'll put them back to there normal settings.
And put up with warning message.

Ah yes, I see. It's an issue with Windows icon caching. It's not correctly mapping the location of the proper icon, so it's replacing it with a generic 'file' icon that Windows uses for unidentified programs.

You should find this helpful.

I used the Windows Fixit.
It repaired the Icon issue.

Now that I've returned the User Account Control back to it's Default.
I'm back too the annoying....
"Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"

Every time I click on the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Icon.
Guess I'll just have too bare with it until a better solution can be found.

Thou....
I am running Zone Alarm Extreme in the main Task Bar{Far right}, and I don't get that message.
