Operating System not found...

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K25 (still original specs)... I was surfing the web the other day and for some reason my computer just shut down.. now when i start it up it says "Operating System not found".... Is there a way I can get my computer to work again without spending the 300+ dollars to buy another OS? I would be willing to do linux if possable... I just want to be able to use my computer again.....

Thanks in advance

well if you have your old OS CD you can install windows from it and you don't need to buy new.if you didn't install it yourself go to the people who did (make sure u have proof that you bought that computer with OS allready installed) you can ask them to give you a cd or to install it for you.

I also just had this happen (virus) if you go into your bios you will probably find that some settings have been changed and/or disabled. If you just change them back , reboot, update your AV and scan your computer for virus's you may have the problem licked. In my bios I found that the IDE hdd was diwsabled and was also removed from the startup sequence. I hope this helps. Good Luck

modo AV

Dralan, if I were you I would run several different AV programs as this virus repeatedly ate my AVG 7.5 avwil 4.3. It may keep coming up until you run a virus scan during or before it boots. You could maybe try Comodo AV as it's also free and new enough that most viruses won't look for it to disable it.
