PXE-61 / Operating System cannot be found

I have a Compaq - Presario 2500 laptop. i hasnt been used i a few months. however when i powered it up i got error message "PXE-E61 - Media test Failure, Check Cable". After this it says that the operating system cannot be found. I thought my hard drive had failed, as when i went into BIOS setup the hard drive could not be found. but the strange thing is that when i use Drive Fitness Test Utilities program, it identifies my hard drive and the hard drive light is also on.....

After the Drive Fitness test i am receiving "Disposition Code 0x72"

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is instructions from another similar post i found on PXE-E61, worth a try!

(go into the BIOS Setup and see if the computer is set to boot from a network drive. In the "Advanced BIOS settings" or similar section, set the boot order to:

1st device = Floppy drive

2nd device = CDROM

3rd device = HDD 0

and disable any network boot options that you may find.

HP does not list a Presario 2500. So, look on the bottom of this laptop and read the actual model listed there, then post that in here.

Thanks for the reply. The Model Number is 2504EU. I am out of options, I dont to go and spend money on a hard drive when is may not be required! After all when i run a Drive Fitness Test or install a New Operating system from Boot, the hard drive can be picked up by the laptop.....
