Notepad ... it's gone

I use notepad a lot when I am copying and pasting things from websites or newsletters. I had a shortcut on my start menu for it. Not sure what happened but I went to click on it and I got a message saying it was not there (invalid shortcut).

No problem .. I went to start, all programs, accessories and guess what, its not there either.

Now I feel dumb ... I don't know where else to look for it, to get my shortcut back on my start menu. Would someone please help me?

Thank you

XP Pro SP2

First things first, let's see if notepad.exe still exists.
Start>Run>Notepad[ENTER]
Any luck?

Koala - well, the program is still on your hard drive (usually in your Windows folder/subfolder - a search on 'notepad.exe' will find the file) - just curious 'why' the shortcut 'disappeared' in your START meun option? Once you find the program, just 'right-click' and setup the shortcuts desired or 'pin' to your Start menu - good luck - BTW, I'd probably make a shortcut to the desktop or place the program in the Quick Lauch menu if you use it that much -

I have no idea why it disappeared. I have used it several times today, but just one click too many and it was gone ... who knows.

I will do as you say.

Do you have any idea why (just a thought) it might have disappeared from the start .. all programs .. accessories list?? This has never happened to me before.

Thank you for your help ... it is very much appreciated.

Koala - sorry, but really not sure 'why' it may have disappeared from your 'accessories' menu - I'm currently on my VISTA laptop (connected to my XP Desktop - Linksys router in the other room), so don't want to check out the options on this machine (not sure about XP vs. VISTA).

But, again find the 'notepad.exe' file in your Windows folder, and then setup the appropriate 'shortcuts' & pin to your 'Start menu' - please report back if a problem arises - all of this should be pretty simple (except explaining the above?) -
