Laptop won't connect to friend's Net
I am staying at a friend's and would rather not use her old windows me which keeps crashing. So I tried to connect my new compac windows xp laptop to her internet connection by plugging the ethernet cable into my computer but I couldn't connect. I used to have Bell internet at my own place and so I guess the software is still on my laptop, if that makes a difference.

This is my first computer, so I'm really lost. Any advice is appeciated. thanks

How does she connect...cable, DSL, something else? Does she use a router?
