Global Warming

Just saw something on telly to start me up on this. Obviously Global Warming is a fact and an issue.... it probably won't affect me in my lifetime.. in fact it will probably be an improvement in the British climate.... but the fact that the US is the biggest contributor to this... and doesn't really want to do anything about it.. or is trying to skirt around the issue worries me....

Is it a "I'm alright Jack issue?" Or a Bush issue..... or pure selfishness....???

What do you think??

it's because there such a free country , they EXPECT things to be done for them, i love America because of its freedom, compared to britain.... i mean i thought britain was pretty free. or maybe it is Bush, hes more interested in power than the Environment, to him its probably a small worry.

I think it would be better if you didn't speak in generallities. I am a US Citizen and very concience(sp?) of my energy usage and the polutants I put into the atmosphere. I don't think you were trying to attack each and everyone of 'us' but it was a little offensive.

And I think the overall fault shouldn't be placed on Bush or the government, it should be placed on the ignorant people who take advantage of our planet.

I hate to say this, but I would have to agree with the first guy that posted. On a news story it sounded like bush wanted more industry & bigger even. One of the steps any government should take is making hydrogen cars manditory. Recycling should have been done years ago. But the Government plays games.

as did I. and I know that we have many tough laws, that's why we're hemorrhaging big companies to other countries.

Q. What country is the largest source of global warming pollution?
A. The United States. Though Americans make up just 4 percent of the world's population, we produce 25 percent of the carbon dioxide pollution from fossil-fuel burning -- by far the largest share of any country. In fact, the United States emits more carbon dioxide than China, India and Japan, combined. Clearly America ought to take a leadership role in solving the problem. And as the world's top developer of new technologies, we are well positioned to do so -- we already have the know-how.

It's one of those things that gets talked about but nothing really accomplished in obtaining a reasonable goal.

It can be attributed to all of these but not on an individual basis.
We elect jerks that talk the talk at election time and then don't walk the walk when voted in.

The Governator (Arnold) is trying to hand the people more power to overcome some of the many problems the U.S. has (at least in California). But it will be all for naught. A few men/women can not fight big business or the government.
We have all the freedom but in a controlled way. Does that negate the freedom? No, but it makes the minority fight losing battles.
I love my country but don't support the war. I love my country but don't support the slow roll on cutting into cleaning up air quality.
I'm 100% American but our rights also allow to agree to disagree.

I may be Canadian, but I think american's should try out someone besides Bush & see what happens. But I guess that also depends on who wants to run. Has america ever considered a 4 party system like Canada currently does, our system is Liberals vs. Progressive Conservatives (PC) vs. New Democratic Party (NDP) vs. Those Quebec Guys (can't spell their party's name) Use to be 5 Party's, Canadian Aliance & (PC) joined together.

There are quite a few political parties here in the States (Green party, American Reform party, Socialist party, Libertarian party, about a dozen others). All put forth their own candidates, but the Democrat and Republican parties usually steal all the thunder (and money, and votes).

It is. The trick is that there's more than one list. The US is the biggest in the list of "industrialized" countries or something like that and China's on another.

OK people, listen up and you might learn something.
Is Global Warming a real issue? YES, yes it is. Anybody who tells you otherwise is either ignorant or has 'other interests'.
Is Global Warming the result of mankind's selfishness, greed, ignorance, etc? Possible, but not 100% of the reason. While it's true the Earth is generally getting warmer, it's not necessary being caused by pollution, destruction of the ozone layer, etc. You see, in the millions of years the Earth has been in existence, it has in fact heated up and cooled down several times (the Ice Age wasn't the only major climate change event in the Earth's history).

Pollution of the Earth certainly isn't helping anything, but it's entirely possible the Earth could simply be going through another, natural, major climate change. I'm not learned enough to know whether it would be a new ice age, or the opposite (a 'heat age'?), or whether or not the change would be so extreme as to wipe out whole species, but hopefully that's given you something to think about.

Global Warning
Don't be so brash. There is enough evidence to support more than one theory.
Take the test at the end of my link. I can argue any side.
Peace.
