First thing you should try is disable norton intenet security on both machines.

yeah ive tried disabling norton and its firewall....i even set up rules about not blocking connections from our network....however if i go into the nortons logs then it says it has blocked connections from (ip address of other computer)...also in the message is something about windows file sharing and also netbios.

Then the firewalls are most likely your problem. I hate to have you do this, but try completely uninstalling the norton firewalls.

Ok,
1.If your wifi router has a builtin nat firewall then u dont need firewalls enabled on machines.
2.is the router set up for DHCP or static IP
3.can u confirm both machines are members of the same workgroup
4.confirm (simple file sharing) is enabled
5.You must have the same user accounts set up on both mahines for file sharing to work.

Post back the router make spec etc....

Archangel as usual is on the money. If they can ping each other and see each other over the lan then most likely norton is in the way. Good luck uninstalling don't for get to clean it out of the registry too.

Sorry, i didn`t realise i was disagreeing with archangel, if you have a firewall in your router then you dont need norton so go ahead and uninstall was the point plus a few extra bits that may have been of help.I didn`t mean to stand on anybodys tootsies.

thanks im thinking it might be easier to format and reinstall windows xp...rather than cleaning out norton.........its nice to clean the computer out every now and then...also i want to know if i have to remove norton...it is my antivirus as well

and noster...
1. yes my router has a firewall
2. Dhcp
3. same workgroup just renamed them all again (even router)
4. file sharing is enabled and installed
5. but i didnt have the same usernames on both computers fixing that now

Ditch Norton and download a free antivirus, there`s plenty to choose from.

try AVG 7.0 it`s ok at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php note just one of many

google it for some more, have fun
