I also have a question maybe?, last time I deleted the "C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe"
System blue screened when I rebooted and had to reformat could not get any where not even in safe mode.
Can someone tell me why this happened?

Thanks for all your help I have no clue where I got this happening again from.

Blessings

Hi and Welcome
It may help you if you print out or copy this page for easy reference.. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order its listed. Please Keep your browser closed when you are carrying out the fixes. Please do not run HJT on the desktop or a temp folder. Its best run in a dedicated folder of its own.

Then....
Run hjt in safe mode... HOW TO RUN SAFE MODE and have "Hijack This" fix all the following items in the list below by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting "fix checked".Please post a new log when finished.

With the EXE files that have been selected go into HijackThis/Config/Misc/Tools/ and open process manager. Select the EXE files (if they are there) and click Kill process before deleting.

Have your system set to show hidden files and folders.. HOW TO SHOW FILES. When done download Cleanup to clean out your tempory files.

Files highlighted in BLACK in the log will need to be removed from your hard drive.

"C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe" this is part of Windows and should not be removed...

Well, Svchost.exe in the System32 folder handles many Windows services, so it's hardly surprising your system blue-screened when it was missing. The same file name in folders other than System32 and DLLCache (not sure if W2K has DLLCache) are malware, as are files that look similar - e.g. Scvhost.exe.

Oops, I see Pancake has done the rest as I was typing...

Pancake,

Did everything that you said above, and when I removed this entry:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bluestart] c:\\rraut.exe
it automatically also removed this entry:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [motoin] C:\WINNT\mm15201518.Stub.exe
Unless I missed it some where in the HJT log file but it was not there when I was looking for it.

Here is the new log:

HKEd,
Nice to meet you.
Thank you for explaining that to me.
Also is there a place in these forums where people just talk and share with out troubles needing fixed? If so can you please direct me there, I have very little free time and when I do, I like to be where I can learn and share with others.

Thank you very much,

Blessings,
da_moma
