Hi maryfrances ,

Create a new folder on C:\ drive and name the folder HijackThis.
Move HijackThis.exe to the new folder.
Your HijackThis is in a temp folder that should be emptied regularly.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Programs ,if they exist:
Viewpoint Manager

I`ve included your home page to be fixed. Just to see if the fix will free up your homepage setting.

[b]Print this{/b}Internet Explorer needs to be closed until final reboot.

2.
Close ALL Internet Explorer Windows, only have HijackThis running.
In HijackThis, Check the boxes for the below entries, then click on "Fix checked"

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus.../search/ie.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://yahoo.sbc.com/dsl

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://yahoo.sbc.com/dsl

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus.../search/ie.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://yahoo.sbc.com/dsl

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

3.
Reboot into Safe Mode...(reboot and tap F8 immediately after BIOS screen....choose Safe mode from menu)
Make sure you set windows to see: Hidden Files and Folders

Then delete the below files and folders:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <--- delete the Viewpoint folder

While still in Safe Mode, Remove all the files and sub-folders from the below TEMP Folders: ( do not delete the TEMP folder itself) ( do this regularly for all users)

C:\documents and settings\Mary Frances\local settings\temp

C:\temp ( if present )

C:\windows\temp

The TIF ( Temporary Internet Files) can also be emptied regularly, via:
Control Panel--Internet Options--General tab--"Delete Files",
Also tick the "delete all offline content" box .

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot computer

Download Ad-aware SE Personal to finish cleaning up.
It is critical that you UPDATE Ad-aware, before scanning.
Use the "Perform full system scan" mode.
See Perform full system scan in Adaware SE for full details.

and also download:
SPYBOT S+D 1.3
UPDATE Spybot S+D 1.3, before scanning.
Remove all RED entries Spybot S+D displays.

Reboot computer and see if IE/home page works.
Post back a new HJT log to this thread, please, and any comments of outcome.

Cheers

It didn't help. I can open the dsl.sbc.yahoo homepage on Explorer, but if I open the Sbcyahoo software it still opens with the same URL as before and I can't go into options and change it. Thoughts?

Hi maryfrances ,

Move HijackThis.exe into its own folder , anywhere but in to a TEMP folder, where it is now.

2.
Open HijackThis ,close all Internet Explorer, and fix the below:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com

O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} (Sinstaller Class) - http://dm.screensavers.com/dm/instal...sinstaller.cab

Close HijackThis.

3.
Regular cleaning of the TEMP folders is necessary.

Remove all the files and sub-folders from the below TEMP Folders: ( do not delete the TEMP folder itself) ( do this regularly for all users)

C:\documents and settings\Mary Frances\local settings\temp

C:\temp ( if present )

C:\windows\temp

The TIF ( Temporary Internet Files) can also be emptied regularly, via:
Control Panel--Internet Options--General tab--"Delete Files",
Also tick the "delete all offline content" box .

Empty Recycle Bin

4.
Download the below attachment called homepage.txt
Rename it to homepage.reg
Double-click the file and answer YES to "Add info to the registry"

See if that gets rid of the greyed options.

Cheers
