Critical Updates Failure
When I do critical updates on this Windows ME machine, after rebooting I get a number of "Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2
1: %2 Followed by: Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting. Windows may not start or run properly. If Windows fails to start, run SETUP again. I press any key to continue to load Windows and everything seems to be OK except that I can't install the Windows Critical Updates. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks. |

I had tried this KB last year with no luck. However, reviewing the location of the old wininit file I had saved gave me the idea to rename the _restore folder. WCU downloaded and installed fine with no other messages. Thanks for providing a link to the solution.
