As with most email viruses just don't download the attachment. I use OE and do not let it do anything automatically, don't even use the preview pane. As of yet I have not had any problems. Thanks for the warning but at this point if you get hit with an email virus it is your own fault.

Hi
Thanks for the heads up lufbra. Like tram says I never open anything automatically in my e-mail program. Have two virus programs that I run, never had a virus yet.

Okay, here's a stupid question, but how do I stop Outlook from opening up the e-mail automatically? Whenever I click on an e-mail, it opens up, can this be stopped?
I have only ever got one virus here, and was able to get rid of it before any damage was done. Now I have two AV's here, and run them both regularly.
Dave.

Just reading the email will not infect you.. running the attached EXE file will infect you.

Thank you Rosie, I thought that was the case, but wasn't too sure.

There are viruses that CAN infect your PC just by *reading* the mail. To stop outlook from opening mail automatically you have to do a couple of things. First you need to disable the preview pane. Click View>>Layout and clear the Show preview pane box. Also from Tools>> General Tab clear the box that says to send and recieve messages at startup.

Also you need to change the settings if you use hotmail. Right click the inbox and choose to Sync settings to download headers only. This way you can delete messages without downloading them to your computer.

I love my Mac! All those PC viruses currently have no effect on a Mac. Ha!

Thanks for the info Tram, I thought it was still risky, without opening up the e-mails!! I'll sure be doing your trick, ain't worth taking any risks these days, even with an AV checking my mail.
Dave.
