Edit button greyed in IE6

The edit buton in IE6 is constantly greyed out. I have tried changing the default application from front page to notepad to word, and still no joy. I recently upgraded from office XP to 2003, and that didn't solve it, and I have tried a re install of IE6, with still no joy. I'm using XP home, and have just added SP2, but I had the problem long before that. anyone have any suggestions??

I've deleted all the temporary files, and that has allowed me to use notebook to view source, but the edit button is still greyed out. I've tried going to folder options as suggested, but I don't have "internet document (HTML)" I have "Internet document set" which is set to open with Internet Explorer!!
