Vista directories

My directories either all want to look like each other (I don't want them too) or they just change on their own (or so it seems).

Ex: Windows Contact directory sometimes shows up as a directory of documents (i.e. the Toolbar). When I change it to have a "contact" toolbar...other directories adopt that same toolbar.

Any place to go a learn how to manage this?

I think we need some clarification.

When you say "i.e. the Toolbar" are you referring to an icon on the Start Menu or the Taskbar (the one with the Start button on it) or something else entirely?

When you change the icon, how exactly do you do it?

When you say, "When I change it to have a 'contact' toolbar ...other directories adopt that same toolbar," do you mean icon, not toolbar?
