cannot log off button gone

please help.
i cannot log of windows vista due to the logout icon disappearing amongst other things, last night i needed to download a zip file and was given a link to download a zip tool as the thing i was downloading wouldn't download it needed to be extracted or something, anyway i think i did something wrong while attempting this and now things on my screen are all higgledy piggledy, the icons in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen are all gone and the clock which comes back now and again is stopped, i don't know what is wrong any help appreciated.

Hi montecristo32. Vista extracts files from zip archives natively and a third party utility is not required.

Have you tried running System Restore and restoring to before the problem happened? See here for help using system restore if you need it.
