help with red alert 2

hi everyone

first post, so hello. Im Paul

right, trying to install red alert 2, start the install procedure gets to "view readme file" yes/no" click no, then it comes up with an error message. setup.exe has encountered an error and must shut down.

does it everytime i try and install it, iv'e tried re-booting but nothing changes. it also has a problem with other .exe files on other games but not as frequently and not always in the same point. iv'e checked the disk but its brand new and not got a scratch on it.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Paul

right click my computer, click on properties and it will give you the in cpu, ram info.

right click desktop, properties, settings, advance, adaptors for the video info.

for the harddrive size, click on my computer, right click on c drive, click on properties, and it will tell you the drive capacity. also tell how much free space.

in the meantime, download ccleaner from ccleaner.com and run it to get rid of all temporary files just in case theres something there.

I was able to install red alert 2 under xp and vista 32, but for whatever reason, the yurie's revenge addition could load, but it'll never run. Whenever I try to start that game it asks for the red alert cd and loads that instead. Anyone have this problem and fix it?

Have either of you tried running in XP's compatibility mode?

tried... but I have yet to have one single program work by that means. I have gotten by using dosbox so far. Doesn't work on this game tho.
How is it exactly do you get the game to work that way, step by step from install?

From my link above:
Quote:
Run the Program Compatibility Wizard

You should run the Program Compatibility Wizard before you try other ways of updating your programs or drivers because it identifies compatibility fixes written specifically for Windows XP. If the wizard does not solve your problem, you can try other steps listed at the end of this article.

To run the Program Compatibility Wizard:
1.
Click Start, and then click Help and Support.

2.
Click Fixing a problem, and then click Application and software problems.

3.
Under Fix a problem click Getting older programs to run on Windows XP.

4.
Read the instructions and then click the Program Compatibility Wizard.

Note If a compatibility problem prevents you from installing a program on Windows XP, run the Program Compatibility Wizard on the Setup file for the program. The file may be called Setup.exe or something similar, and is probably located on the Installation disc for the program.

The wizard prompts you to test your program in different modes and with various settings. For example, if the program was originally designed to run on Windows 95, set the Compatibility Mode to Windows 95, ..., and try running your program again.
OR set it manually as described further on in the article.
Quote:
Note The Compatibility tab is only available for programs installed on your hard drive. Although you can run the Program Compatibility Wizard on programs or Setup files on a CD-ROM or floppy disk, your changes will not remain in effect after you close the program.
I have seen one comment on MS technet that RedAlert will not run on XP in compatibility mode because of it's reliance on IPX networking for multiplayer.
