Grayed items in Start Button Win98SE

Right clicking on the Start Button, yields Open and Explore as grayed out, whereas Find and Scan for Virus are O.K.
Is this a registry problem? What about a fix.?

Hi hub_cap...this can happen if you have TweakUI installed and have one or more drive letters unchecked on the My Computer tab. Make sure all drives have a check beside the letter, then reboot for the change to take effect.

This is a known "bug" in TweakUI.

If you don't have TUI, I suggest trying a repair of Internet Explorer via Start > Settings > Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs.

Found this at Surecool.com. Shows where in the registry to look.

No Open & Explore Option using Right Click on the Start Button

A fix for those of you who have the "Open" and "Explore" right-click options grayed out on your start menu.

Note: For those of you who use TWEAKUI. If any of the Drive (boxes) in the "My Computer" panel are unchecked, and you want to restore the "Open" and "Explore" option, then all the boxes must be checked.

For all the rest of you, here's how to fix it.

Step 1 -Select the Start Button, then the Run Box. Type in: regedit

Step 2.Open Regedit and find the key: HKEY_USERS/Default/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer Or the quick version, find "nodrives"

Step 3. - Change the DWORD or BINARY value "NoDrives" to "00 00 00 00"

Step 4. - Right Click on the start button & test.

Yes I am using TweakUI and I did have some of the drive letters unchecked. When I applied your suggestion to the registry, the drive letter all became checked, but the buttons are still grayed out.

Update: when I rebuilt the icons with tweakUI, the buttons became available.

Thanks again.
