2142 Headset help

Ok, So I got a new headset the other day in order to talk to people on Battlefield 2142 using VOIP. I plugged in the headset, and the headphones work fine. However, the mic wont work in the game. I am able to use it for everything else on the computer, but it doesnt work while im playing. When I do the microphone test in the options in the game, I can hear myself talk just fine, however, when I got in game and press the button to talk, I say stuff, but no one can hear me. If someone could help me out, that would be great. Oh, and Im running windows XP Sp2, I have a cable internet connection, my computer specs are: ECS nForce 570 SLIT-A, 1 gb,(2x512) OCZ DDR2 667 Ram, Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86ghz, GeForce 7900GS(dx9), with on board sound.
