W32.ircbot.gen detected everytime IE opens

I have a problem with this pesky W32.ircbot.gen virus. Every time I open my internet explorer, Norton pops up with a big red window saying it found this virus.

However scanning for the virus finds nothing, and following the removal instructions on Norton's website finds nothing.

The virus is said to write some specific registry entries, which do not exist. It is also being detected in a file that does not exist.

I'm not completely convinced I have this virus, but Norton thinks I do. What can I do about this?

Any help would be great.

I have Norton 2005, completely up to date with all definitions. Windows MCE 2005, with all available updates as well.

It is C:\Documents and Settings\Neil\Local Settings\temp\zedesh.dat

I have deleted the entire temp folder, but I was still getting the error.
I recently ran a couple of free online virus scanners, and neither found any viruses in that folder, nor any W32.ircbot.gen.

In fact it was all spyware stuff they found (actually all cookies).

I was looking in the start up section using msconfig.exe, and there were a couple of startup items that had no description. I unchecked these and msconfig gave me an error saying I needed to have administrative authority to do so. I am the administrator for this PC.
After this error, one of the descriptionless item disappeared. And despite the error from msconfig, it saved the fact that I unchecked the other startup item.

The startup items pointed to the registry path: Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

I no longer get this popup from Norton.

You may have had to reboot for Norton to realise it was gone. I can check your logs for you if you like.

Go here and download the latest version of Hijack This. When you have downloaded it, doubleclick to install. Once installed, open Hijack This and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Also go here and download Silent Runners.vbs (clicking the the download link works if you use IE. If you use FireFox, rightclick on the link and choose "Save Link As") to a new folder on your drive and run it. It generates a log too. It takes a minute or two and it will notify you with a popup when your log is ready (it will be in the new folder you created). Please post the information back in this thread. If your antivirus program queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious.

Your logs look fine sethlives1. Kaspersky online scanner detects zedesh.dat as Trojan-Spy.Win32.Delf.lh. It wouldnt hurt to run a scan and see what it reports. Go here and run the Kaspersky scanner (disable your antivirus program first). Save the report and post it here.

Kaspersky won't install the ActiveX file. I'm under the impression it is not compatible with internet explorer 7. Though it doesn't say this, it redirects to a window that states it is only compatible with IE v5 or greater.
