Question Combining Multiple disk programs

I would like to know if it possible to take a program that requires more than one CD Rom and record it on a DVD so that you can use one disk instead of several?

It depends on the program. For example, if the program requires resources from the disc, and can't find them where they should be (because you separated the different disc contents into different folders on the disc so you didn't overwrite common file names), then there's going to be problems.

Eg: Disc 1 has a data.cab file. Disc 2 also has a data.cab file. In order to have both on the same disc, you have to put them into different folders on the disc (eg. D:\disc1\data.cab, D:\disc2\data.cab). When the program needs to access data.cab, it won't find it where it expects it to be, and will most likely have problems.

Question combining programs

So, let me get this straight. if I copy each individual disc (from CDs) as a file on the DVD then I shouldn't have any problems.

In other words say Disc one contains: file 1, file2, file3, and file4; Disc 2 contains file5 and file6; and disc 3 contains files 7 - 10. I would copy each disk into a separate folder labeled disc1, disc2, and disc3 respecively.

So the folders (assuming that the DVD drive is drive E) would be named
E:\disc1\; E:\disc2; E:\disc3

One more thing, how does the program know which folder to call for?

No, if each disc contains unique file names, you would have to copy them to the root folder of the disc, and then it would probably work. It's only if the discs use the same name for different files where it would be impossible (because you'd either have to overwrite them, or put them in separate folders where the program won't find them).
