Change Registration Name?

How can I change who my computer is registered to without reloading win 95? I bought a used computer and I want to put my name as the registrant.

Hi restand - You can change the name in the Registry. Make sure that you back it up before making any changes.

Go to Start > Run and type:

regedit

then click OK

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion and look in the right hand pane. You will see two values, RegisteredOrganisation and RegisteredOwner. Select the value that you wish to change and click on the Edit menu then click on Modify. Type the information that you want in the box that says Value data then click OK. If the computer belonged to a company and there is information in Value Data of the RegisteredOrganisation string, just delete it and leave a blank entry if you dont want to rename that Value.

Close the registry editor and reboot.

Hi
while in there, also make a note of the product version and licence key

I assure you you will want to format and run setup one day, and then you have the licence key that belonged to this machine.

while you have a machine that still runs, look at the hardware and make sure you have the drivers you will need when that day comes.

Also, I strongly advise to create a boot diskette that can access its CDROM.
test it

when its configured proper, look for the ERU tool
(eru and the erd it created was lifesavers...)
