Cannot open exe files (practically cannot do anything wif the computer)

I actually have infected wif a virus called w32.supernova. Since i do not have an anti-virus to solve the problem, i downloaded norton anti virus 2003 trial to help me. I do not noe if that virus have been removed but that norton anti-virus has popped up many times to say repair successful for many files....then now....all exe files could not be opened and even files that end wif .ink . it will have the msg "windows cannot find .......exe. You may have typed the name incorrectly in the run dialog, or another open program cannot find a system file. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search." I have opened this internet browser thru search for files on the internet.....if not, i also cannot open the internet explorer, even the icon for internet explorer is replaced by a blank icon.....wat shud i do? I cannot do anything wif my computer now. This problem only started after i used the norton anti virus trial...b4 that, even wif the w32.supernova virus present, my computer still can function though i needed a startup disk and type scanreg /restore b4 my computer could boot. Then all the files could be used....but after I had used the anti-virus, this problem had began and now my computer is as gd as useless......pls help me .......thank you.

Hi Strike, Welcome to Cyber Tech!

Go here and download and run exefix08.com
http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Ret...d/Only_IE.html

If you are unable to use your pc and have access to another, download it to a floppy disk and write protect the floppy.
Insert the floppy in your problem machine and run exefix08.
Reboot after running.

After rebooting, Do you still receive any error messages?

Is notepad the only one that will not open?

Open your C:\Windows folder and see if notepad is there. If it is , double click on it. Did it open?

Do you have a Windows ME CD? If so, See this and extract a new copy of notepad.exe to C:\Windows.

Let me know how this goes, There are a few things to do yet to make sure you are virus free..

It is hard to say if Norton or W32.Supova deleted the files.

Navigate to C:\Program Files and open the Internet Explorer folder and see if the setup.exe is there. If so run it.
