I have pictures on my Sony Memory Stick. I can see the image thumbnails clearly, but the files themselves are corrupted, apparently. The file size seems complete and the thumbnails are clear, but I can't open the file with anything -- and I've tried several programs. The files look "incomplete" in some apps (top of image and then all grey for the rest). Windows Explorer will show thumbnail, but if "Filmstrip" view is selected, "Drawing failed" is displayed.
Since these are, naturally, Christmas morning snapshots, is there anyway to recover these files or, failing that, convert the thumbnails into jpgs? I realize that they would be tiny, but tiny is better than nothing. Good thing I got a new camera for Christmas, too bad I was still using the old one for these!! there are many free data recovery programs and some of them specialise in memory sticks, try a google for free data recovery software and you will get loads of hits
easiest way of converting the thumbnails to jpg's in to hit printscreen when viewing them and pasteing it into windows paint then you can crop it and save it . might take awhile if you have a load of therm but it's better than nothing ![]() |

go to my computer, right click on the memory stick, click on properties, click on tools and run an error check. Let it fix the errors and see what happens.
clarification - When you say you see thumbnails - where do you see them at - in windows explorer or in some graphic program? You can also try copying them to a folder on your computer. Check and make sure the pictures were saved with the extension jpg. |
