reboot issue

i have vista, home basic, 32 bit. my issue is that i cannot restart my computer going through the start button. i have to manually shut it down and restart with the power button....not sure what has happened....is there a fix for this?

my mistake...my version of vista is home premium, NOT home basic

Does it do it in Safe Mode? If it recently did this try restore to before it started.

Or you can try running Sfc /scannow to see if it repairs any system files.

sfc/scannow worked

running scannow worked like a charm...it's fixed....THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH. i'm good to go, so i will end this and make room for the other needy people...

corrupted file system

hi murf. that's exactly what the scannow scan told me....that it fixed a number of corrupted files which, upon reboot, restored my ability to restart from the start button (and whatever else was corrupted)....great advice...thanx again

ps...i couldn't open the logfile for it...i got access denied....so i can't tell you what files were corrupt and got fixed
