Let's see if we can see a conflict, Go here and download, unzip and run StartupList. It will create a text file, copy and paste that file in a reply.

I don't see to much of anything that would cause a conflict. I would start by completely uninstalling NSW and NAV. See these articles on how to do it using RNAV and other tools.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01092114452606

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01100212100807

Then try re-installing them.

For Hotmail and Windows update, Click Tools > Internet Options > Security > Internet Zone. Set the security at 'medium' and see if you can access them. Let me know.

I've been in and out of security and privacy ten times, tried setting to default ,tried to do it manually, tried to even lighten the restrictions to no avail.pc pitstop won't run because I don't have scripting or java (vm) enabled ,security says they are, tried to download ie6 to see if this would help, might have caused more problems, cannot find it in add remove programs.half my other important web sites say can't run without cookies.should I try to uninstall al my norton, then uninstall win xp ,reinstall win xp ,then reload norton??? thanks tb P.S. just tried to uninstall in which it says to restart and now it keeps restarting in selective mode even when I switch to normal,(push apply and close)?? P.S.S o.k.selective mode is fixed. I do get the backweb error 8263142,but I don't think thats part of the problem (I'll leave that up to you) ..Also cannot activate my copy of win xp (just a blue screen when I try to go there)..lots of little glitches like my (connect automatically) checkmark keeps going away??..............thanks again.........smoot

First, See the above links and completely uninstall Norton. (You can reinstall it later) Then go here and download and install Microsoft Virtual Machine: http://www.abxair.com/software/downloads.htm

Try going into Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components and remove the check from Internet Explorer and check MSN Explorer.

Then try it. Is there any difference?

A note about Win XP and NAV 2001

NAV 2001 does not work with Win XP. I had to upgrade to 2002 to install it on my computer. If you own 2001, you can get a discount when buying 2002.

Also, I've heard of Hotmail having problems with XP, but I suppose that doesn't actually help anything.

here' something I've found

Intro
What’s Changed?
Privacy Tab
P3P for Cookies
Uninstalling IE 6
Security Zones Update
XP or Not XP? Microsoft IE 6 and P3P

Uninstalling IE 6
After reading all of the above, you may be convinced that IE 6 is not for you... at least not yet. After all, unless you’re interested in using P3P for cookies, you aren’t missing much by sticking with MSIE 5.5. Unfortunately for those of us who have already upgraded or are planning on upgrading to WinXP, avoiding MSIE 6 is an impossibility.

You may have heard that IE 6 can be removed from Windows XP. If this were true, you might be able to uninstall IE 6 and then reinstall IE 5.5 under WinXP. But alas, this is not possible. The “uninstall/ removal” feature of IE 6 from WinXP does not remove the browser or its Internet components. It only removes the user-interface components, leaving all functionality intact for any software that might require IE 6 support (but removing any ability for the user to configure Internet security options ).

If WinXP becomes as popular with consumers as Microsoft hopes, and if consumers reject the use of P3P foisted on them by IE 6, we may see a resurgence of third-party browsers as consumer demand grows for easier-to-understand privacy options.

< Back to XP or Not XP ... that is the question

from what i read it's a windows ,ie6 problem,,read at ( cnet -software-browsers-ie6 nightmares) I can't even believe ms can sell something like this,,100 bucks to screw up your computer, what a bargain,,then when you do the upgrade ms tells you it will automatically save win 98 so you can go back easly,,then when you go to uninstall they tell you oh by the way we don't know if everything will work right when you go back to your old os,,xp should definitly be beta xp,,never seen so many patches,,well I'll wait through 12/18 ,,and try to go back to 98 se. Maybe you guys will come up with something.....thanks for your help,,you have a great forum and knowledgable participents...............

Click Start > Run > type regedit and click OK
Click the + next to the following keys

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
InternetSettings
Zones

Scroll down and click on the 3 folder.

In the right hand window look for:1A10

What is listed for the value data? To be set at default (medium) the value should be 1 ( 0x00000001 (1) )
If it shows anything else, double click on it, then change the value to 1 and click OK.
