Hey JJackman

Have you tried going to Windows Update Page and manually check for updates and download from there?

Hello, there may be several reasons as to why this is happening. You could be running other programs in the background etc, if it happens again go to this site an recover the info that you may need to download http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

critical updates

Hi again tweaker. I'm still having problems. get "page cannot be displayed" message when I try to launch it from the start menu. But I can launch it from the tools menu in internet explorer. However, when I click on "scan for updates", It hangs on 0%. I've done a repair on the internet explorer also. This is the first time I have encountered this problem, and I cant figure out why this happened. . Am i doing something wrong here? Thanks for your patience. John

Try this jjackman. Go to Internet Options > Security and click on Trusted sites and then click on the Sites button. Add: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Uncheck "Require server verification".

Let us know if this helps.

Hi again jjackman - I popped over to MS Newsgroups and found the following information:

Cannot accept agreement:

Right click the Desktop, click Properties. Click Settings tab, click Advanced. Set DPI to 96dpi.

Windows update hangs at 0%

Check the date and time of your computer to ensure that they are accurate.

Check to see that a Language has been chosen for Internet Explorer via Internet Options.

While in Internet Options, click the Connections tab, click LAN settings and make sure that neither box is checked under Automatic configuration.

Let us know if any of the above helps.

Hi again annmarie. I'm happy to report that I have the updates working again. Did what you said in the lan settings. one wasn't unchecked but that's the way it was when things were working properly. Unchecked it but same result. Decided to run another virus check. found a virus. something to do with an ie patch. deleted it. the file's name is win32.gibe.b@mm. Guess that was the problem. Let me know what you think. I Thank you and your colleagues for all your help. J Jackman

jjackman,

I think you nailed it.

win32.gibe.b@mm is a virus that masqraides as a Microsoft Security Update.
