Notepad.exe

I have found another "Notepad" program that I'd like to use as the "default" notepad. I'm of the understanding that this can be done by copy/pasting the exe file that's in the Windows folder to another folder, then in the Windows folder renaming the notepad.exe to something like notepad_old.exe, then adding the "other" notepad exe file and naming it notepad.exe. But this isn't working, somehow the notepad.exe file reverts back to the original one, and it seems to do it right before my very eyes....LOL!!!

It appears that I'm not doing something right, or doesn't XP allow this kinda thing?

TIA.

"Get Ya Mitts Off Me Stash"????

Hmmm, terribly tempted not to tell

Notepad.exe is a protected file and Windows will just replace it. Try this Dave.

Hi Dave, have you installed SP2? If so see here. It would probably be a good idea to try this in Safe Mode.

Yeah I have SP2 on here, so I did your suggestion by going into Safe Mode and guess what...It worked, so no lengthy post thread this time, trying to solve the problem.

For this, I'll give ya one of Degsy's finest lagers, heck, have two and thanks for the help.

OY!!!!!

You know me, generous to a fault.

Well after all that, I didn't like the way the "other" Notepad worked as default, so I've changed it back.
