Recovery

Computers with a recovery partitions that brings a computer back to factory spec's would it eliminate a virus on system?

This question would be best if in the malware removal section of the forum. That said, you should try your best to remove the virus before restoring since viruses can be tricky and ride along with the restore. They can hide as system files and in memory so see if the guys there can get rid of it for you before you give up on all your data and installed programs. I have found the best way to rid yourself of a virus is to first identify it so you can search for a specific removal tool to run from safe mode. If removal deletes some system files then you can try different restore functions depending on what your missing. A system repair is often preferable to a factory reinstall. Even microsoft update site will try with its malware removal tool. Have you tried that?

It could and in most cases would work but unless you know what you are dealing with, it is best to try to get rid of the nasty first.
