printer problems

I have a HP pavilion p7-1414 windows 8 desktop computer. It has printed fine for the past 7 months but now when I try to print to my brother laser printer in shuts down the computer but it goes ahead and prints what I sent to printer. It doesn't do this every time but most of the time

printer problems

Before I tried un-installing my printer and re-installing my drivers. I unplugged my printer which was plugged into a power surge protector that had my computer plugged into and other devices. I plugged in my printer to a separate outlet and it took care of my computer shutting down when I tried to print. I hope this may help someone else that may have this same problem.
