Could be a virus that copies itself into csrss.exe file. Have you done a virus scan recently? Here's a link to a couple of removal tools you can use to see if your infected.

That particular virus uses the csrss.exe file. I posted the removal tool so you can run it and see if your infected or not.

I don't seem to be getting anywhere with this website.I click to get the tool for one of them and it just takes me back to the first page that I was on.I tried getting the other tool and the same happens. All I can get is description of each virus and how do I know if I have one or the other. The site says you need to know which one you have before getting the tool.

Do you have an anti-virus program(other than norton because it sux)? I would recommend AVG, as it is free. Also get ad-aware if you dont already have it. I had the same virus as you, messing up my notepad, but AVG was able to remove it. And hey, dont bash this site. This is a wonderful site with many friendly and helpful people.

Sorry for misunderstanding you. To get notepad back:
Go to this folder C:\Windows\System32\dllcache Click Tools/Folder Options Turn on show hidden files and folders. Then turn OFF "hide protected operating system files". This is your backup of windows system files which notepad is one of. Find notepad.exe, right click and click copy. Next go to the shortcut for notepad in your start menu. Right click and choose properties. Click "find target". This will open the containing folder. Right click in this folder and click paste. Windows will tell you the file already exists do you want to replace it. Click yes and you have restored notepad. Go back to Folder Options and hide the system files and hidden files again. |

Actually I believe there a couple viruses that do that. I personally would download and use AVG. Make sure you update it. AVG has gotten rid of any trojan I have received. Also use spyware blaster it will actually prevent you from getting spyware and trojans. Ive been virus free 8 months, ever since I started using it.

Could be you have some corrupted files. Go to START>RUN and type sfc/scannow
You will need your XP CD in order to fix the corrupted windows system files, if found by scan. |
