My Permissions?

I have a problem I can not figure out.

Laptop : Vista Ultimate
Main : XP Pro
Both only have one account... admin.

From Vista, sometimes I can copy/move/etc onto the XP shared drives. Sometimes I get errors I have no permissions. Same thing with the external drive. For example, I am copying files from a DVD onto the external, which is on network. I copied files from DVD to the drive. I then go to move the files on that drive into their correct folders. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can not. Say I am trying to move 10 files from the root folder into "movies" on that drive. It will start moving the files, halts that I have no rights to move a certain file, I skip, and it continues with the rest.

Why does Vista do this? I have access then no access. Frustrating.

Any ideas? Hope I explained it well.

Thank you.
