Computer sounds like its about to take off- Moved by Jintan

HP mini tower processor using windows xp Home Edition Desktop service pack three with usb HID compliant mouse and keyboard. Memory 1.99gb with 60% free space. I dont know the mother board or where to find the info relating to the video card.
When opening email or going online to a website the processor sounds as if its about to take off (I have tried practically taking it apart and cleaning it out which produce a lot of dust and fluff). My windows live Hotmail is erratic in that sometimes when i go to close an email it suddenly starts opening blank pages and takes a lot of hassle trying to close them as in having to use task manager to do so. Repeatedly when i switch the computer on the colors have reverted from the classic to the standard shades of blue. The usb connections are all causing problems in that sometimes they work and other times they dont. I have to constantly unplug my mouse and re insert for it to work. Explorer is constantly crashing. The cd drive has also in the last 24 hours vanished from the listing in my computer and in device manager it states it cannot load the driver as its missing or corrupt (it was fine 24 hours ago). I have tried using system restore on occasion and even that wont work although it is turned on. In all it feels as if the computer is failing in all areas and although it is a refurbished one i dont think it should be going the way it is. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to find out exactly what is wrong with it and how to repair it if at all possible. I have tried all the solutions that windows advise like turning off all add ons etc. I have tried using the free version of System Mechanic and various other programs but nothing seems to work. I am getting to a stage where i just want to throw it out the window its really getting me down.

well probs these cover wide range, and is not cool,
at boot do any part of boot stick ie seem to take along to compete before moving on to next ,

Yes when i boot it seems to take ages for the windows logo to appear then ages before the screen opens and the icons to appear. Another prob that has started up in the last couple of days is that i am getting script error appearing on the games i have had on the computer for a while and the only way to get rid of it is to close the game off via the task manager. These games never had that before and i have tried deleting Java and re installing but its not worked. I would be grateful for any advice you can give. Thanks

Hi,

There are two things you can do for us:

1. Use Speccy to export your PC specs and post them here.

2. Use a program like HWMonitor to see if your CPU is overheating, especially when it starts sounding like it's about to take off (which is the CPU fan running at full blast)

3. Get hold of a/your Windows XP OS Disc, just in case you need to run the System File Checker or try a repair installation of Windows, which should fix most things.

A couple of your problems point to possible malware, before going further I would suggest going to our Malware Forum. I will move this over there and notify the mod. Let's make sure your clean before trying different hardware/software fixes.

The malware was already sorted out by Jintain i think his name was and i have run Superantispyware every other day since plus i have Norton installed. I am also finding it rather confusing with so many people giving me advice at the same time. Is it possible to deal with one person so i can keep myself straight?

Go to Start > Run and type or copy/paste:

cmd /c chkdsk c: |find /v "percent" >> "%userprofile%\desktop\checkhd.txt"

Then press OK. A command window will open, and a check of your disk will run. When that finishes, it will create a checkhd.txt log on your desktop. Post those contents back here please. The check disk will take a while to run, so please be patient.

Yes this is the problem i was having then and you suggested i take it to the hardware forum. There has been a bit of delay in doing so as we found out my older sister was terminally ill and i have been going up to see her while i can. I finally got round to it when i got home this week and was told there were signs of malware and it was moved here.

That doesnt look very promising does it. It did it rather quick and i didnt think it had run at first.

Not sure if this info will help in any way but i downloaded a prog called Hmonitor and the results are as follows. With nothing running the readings were Motherboard 29c CPU 41c HDD37 Cooling fans Chassis1316 rpm CPU 1765rpm When i went onto a facebook game it changed to Motherboard 47 CPU 62 HDD 37 Cooling fans Chassis 1805 CPU 2519 This was one of the info requests on the hardware forum i was asked for
