DirectX 9.0a Bug?
judging by their site, microsoft does not like to hear about bugs in their programs..(no bug report section)
i recently installed directX 9.0a on my system and since then when i use virtually any media player that uses shortcut keys like Xvid ;-) player, to switch to full screen instead of pushing the switch to fullscreen button, i get this error message on blue screen.. Filename: VMCPD(01) + 0000061c Error: 0D : 0028 : C0058358 upon pressing any key to get out of it another message Error: 0E : 0028 : C0014C8E i have tested all recently installed programs & apps & the only other thing that has this exact same crash is directX 9.0a when clicking test direct sound, happens with all direct sound tabs but not when testing video... i suspect this to be a directshow / directsound filter /dll problem any ideas? i have a gigabyte ga-7vkml motherboard 256 ddr amd - duron 1.3 ghz soundblaster live 5.1 windows millenium build # 3000 liteon 40x12x48 cd-rw liteon 16x dvd 32mb S3-pro savage ddr, on-board video seagate barracuda 5 40gb hdd im not new to computers or tech stuff but coding is not my strong point |

Hi B.S.O.D Hater,
The only item I have found thus far which states the exact exception 0D error message you are getting is here I guess you could try: 1) updating your drivers 2) disabling DirectSound 3) running Winamp before running another media player Last edited by GretaP; June 21st, 2003 at 02:05 AM. |

thx for the advice...
i can conclude this error is caused by direct sound in directX 9.0a as it is now fixed i downloaded directX uninstaller v13 from the cth (this) website & followed the removal instructions & reinstalled dx 8.1 now it works a charm tested everything can now change sizes, test direct sound etc.. all works fine however just a minor problem with the system tray the internet connection icon on the lower right (next to the clock) now seems to have a yellow shading outlining it.. if thats all it is then should not be a problem everything else is fine but maybe when i play a directX induced game might have some weird shadings |

after testing all was fine, but 3hrs later it crashed again with same error...
here is a better soloution that has worked almost perfectly.. please read all carefully (it caused my soundblaster live to not operate properly & deleted some of the installed soundblaster .dll & .exe files) ***** Important:**** Save A System Restore Point, better yet use a program like roxio go-back or similar so you can revert your drive, as on a restart you may find you get a message "failed to load explorer.exe you need to re-install windows"******* put in your windows millenium cd, go to <your cd-rom drive letter>:\win9x & open WIN_20.cab (<your cd-rom drive letter>:\win9x\win_20.cab) with either with winrar or winzip or other archive software select the following files configmg.vxd ntkern.vxd vcomm.vxd vdd.vxd vdmad.vxd vflatd.vxd vmcpd.vxd vmouse.vxd & extract them all to both the c:\windows\system & c:\windows\system\vmm32 restart your computer & the problems should go away *note* when installing soundcard, modem, videocard or other hardware drivers as well as directX, it may overwrite these files so if the error appears again after installation just repeat the above steps *** this will have some compatibility problems after finding that, i then took away all files but left the file [vmcpd.vxd] in the folder c:\windows\system\vmm32 then uninstalled all video drivers & software, soundblaster live! software, also used the utillity in the soundblaster cd-rom's audio driver folder & uninstalled all vxd & wdm drivers as it kept detecting my drivers as xp/nt version .. reinstalled video drivers reinstalled directx 9.0a (it now works after the changes / fixes).. reinstalled sound card: WinMe recognized emu10k1 for win98se/Me as uncertified (another bug) & wanted to not install, had to force the install by choosing advanced & choosing to ignore that problem & install regardless after a restart i tested all directX features & all now work tested video that works also in the directx 9.0a .inf file it mentions file vmcpd (which is not found in the vmm32 dir) which is contained in the file vmm32.vxd along with other important .vxd files placing a standalone vmcpd.vxd file in the c:\windows\system\vmm32 directory before reinstalling directx seems to help a great deal.. after testing everything, run norton windoctor followed by: norton disk doctor & then norton speed disk after aplying the changes i found around about 208 problems with windows that needed fixing & 2files in temp folder that were giving wrong data. my system now runs alot faster than it did with a clean install & parts of applications that did not run before now run correctly & memory resources tend to not run out as fast as it usually would do, i didnt really want to reinstall dx9.0a but didnt have much choice hardware acceleration with sound was not recognized anymore by previous versions eg. dx8.1a & had to use only software mode but everythings ok now with 9.0a although this build chews more physical memory (ram) on the upside, serious sam & return to castle wolfenstein run faster ...... & its not crashing like a crazy ****** hope this can help people that may have had the same prob |
