Malware issue

Hello

I don't seem able to log in normally. I have to press F8 and go to Safemode with Networking to access the Internet.

I have done a scan and got rid of some malware, but it still denies me access to the Internet. I have Avast and malwareBytes, but the problem is still there.

I can see my desktop - but not MSN.

Any help, please?

Quetzal

Click Start, Run. In the Run box, type "msconfig" without the quotes and press Enter. Click the "BOOT.INI" tab, and uncheck the box, "/SAFEBOOT", (if present) Apply, OK

Start | Run

Type the following;

C:\Boot.ini

If it opens then check for the error if it doesn't or you get Access Denied or similiar error then try this:

Start | Run

Type the following:

Regedit.exe

Your registry should open (please be careful in there as this is the heart of XP and a wrong entry can cause complete boot failure)

Clicking on the + signs navigate to the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig

Backup the key by doing the following;
  1. Right click on the key and choose export
  2. In the SAVE box select the location where you want to save the registry entries save as a .reg file
  3. In the file name box type the file name (doesn't matter what you call it)
Click SAVE. (I would save to desktop)

Now
In the right-pane, delete the value named Boot.ini (if found)
Close Registry Editor and open MSCONFIG.

Hello

If I go to Start | Run D:\Boot.ini, I get the following when I am in Safe Mode for Networking:

Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Thanks for your help.
