Gittery Mouse--Hour Glass

Hi,
I just joined the forum and am glad you all are here to help. I have a problem with my computer, that has been getting gradually worse. My mouse pointer and hourglass that shows your computer is busy doing something, starts jumping and gets real gittery and jerky, then my computer stops responding or freezes up. The only way I can get my computer to close the programs, is to use Ctrl, Alt, and Delete. When I do this, it shows that the program Msgsrv is not responding. I continue to use Ctrl, Alt, and Delete until my computer shuts down completly. My mouse pointer does not work or even show up during shuting down each program with Ctrl, Alt, and Delete, but the scroal works on the mouse. It does this after I have been on the internet for a short while or I start downloading something. I have also tried using different mouses. I installed spywear and ran it, but that didn't help. I have a 18gb SYSTEMAX GLOBLE 44Xmax desktop computer with an AMD - K7 PROCESSOR 550 MHz with MMX. I upgraded my memory to 256 MB, and I downloaded the DIRECT X 9.0b. I am using windows 98 SE and Internet Explorer 5.6.0 2800.1106. My display drivers have been reinstalled recently and are set at 16 bit high color. I have another computer and have noticed that the cursor is real gittery and blinks real fast, but does not cause me any trouble as far as freezing up. I sure would appreciate any and all help I might recieve.
THANKS,

Welcome to CTH PAPPERBOB1. It might help if we can see what is running on your PC.

go here and download the latest version of Hijack This to a new folder on your drive, unzip it and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Hi PAPPERBOB1, Close IE and all open windows and run Hijack This again. Check the below entries and click on Fix Checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Kazaa Download Accelerator Updater] regsvr32 /s C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KDPUPD.DLL

When you have done this, boot into Safe Mode (restart your PC and tap F8 as it restarts), make sure that you can view hidden files and folders, and run a search for and delete KDPUPD.DLL. While you are in Safe Mode, take a note of whether the problem with your mouse still occurs. Reboot afterwards and post a new log. Any improvement?

Here is the new log file I recieved after I did as you recommended. I forgot to mention that I don't use my internet explorer to access the internet, I use either CompuServe or AOL. I do use my IE to access certin web sites after I am connected through CompuServe. I tried getting online after I deleted Kazaa, with Hi Jack This, and my same problem exist. My mouse and hour glass start jumping and usually within 2 or 3 minutes my computer freezes up. I have been online about 5 times this evening and my computer freezes up within 5 to 10 minutes after connecting up. I hadn't had the Kazaa download accelerator on my computer, but about two days. The only reason I installed Kazaa was because I was loosing my downloads due to my computer freezing up before my downloads were finished. I had already uninstalled it, but didn't realize that part of the program was still hiding on my computer. Thanks for getting it removed. I am puzzled as to what to try next, do you have any more ideas?
Thanks again

Hi PAPPERBOB1, close IE and fix the below entry with Hijack This and reboot.

O2 - BHO: Core Library - {E9C1FD9A-46B0-4185-84ED-E2F8ACD4A262} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KDP2565.DLL

If you still have a problem, try clean booting to see if you can isolate the problem. It is tedious but it can be very effective. Let us know how you get on.

I clean booted my computer and found that my modem was causing my gittery mouse problem. I replaced my modem about 6 months ago and thought it was working properly. I had checked several times in System under Devices -- Modems and it always showed it working properly. This has been a great learning experience for me and I thank you for your help. This was the first time I had ever Clean Booted my computer, so learning that process was good. Thanks for being there for rookies like me.
