Battlefield 2 crashes online only

When I play Battlefield 2 online it will crash everytime....sometimes it will crash before I even select a weapon, sometimes it will let me play for 15 minutes before crashing.......this ONLY crashes on online play, single player works just fine

The error it gives me is something saying the memory could not be "read" and also gave me a number which I can get if needed (this was not a BSOD)

I have tested my RAM, and ran chkdsk ehich both came back clean

My other games work just fine (Unreal Tournament 2004, Need For Speed:Most Wanted, Sim City 3000, Swat 4)

I have contacted EA tech support but they just say "your video card is not in our suppored list" and then pretty much say they can't help

My specs are in my sig and I am running XP Home SP2 with all updates, I have the latest drivers for my video card, sound card, network card, and chipset

*EDIT*
OK I reinstalled all my drivers to make sure (already reinstalled most of them once before) bu now I got a new error when the game crashed:

The exception single step
A single step or trace operation has just been completed
(0x80000004) occurred in the applicatiion at location 0x0099e000

See your post count, 666. Better watch out, lol.
Have you updated the game? the latest patch is 1.4, if you have then you could try uninstalling and reinstalling BF2 and see if that works.

I have reinstalled it before (I even reformatted due to other reasons)

I updated before, but I don't think it was to that version, I'll try that

*EDIT*
I updated and got a runtime error as the game was starting.......great an update made it crash earlier than the old version

You said you tried reinstalling but have you tried running it without any patches installed, so it's just the retail version. Or do you have to have the patches installed to play? What number runtime error was it aswell.

Have you run virus/spyware scans at all? It's worth checking just in case. I don't know but it could be a problem with your firewall (if you have one). Again worth checking. Sorry if I'm not being much help but I'm running out of ideas.

lol, I'm a geek in denial, so my friends keep telling me. It's weird how you can play single player alright but it's just multi player that you get problems with. That's what lead me to think it might be the router, firewall etc. The other games you mention, are they all alright in MP mode? I was thinking it might be something with your broadband provider but if the other games work then it's got to be BF2 with the problem. I know your GPU isn't supported but surely it would cause problems with SP aswell as MP. Have you got another card you could try or borrow one, atleast then you'll know whether it's the card.

I don't have a different card to try, I am planning on upgrading the graphics eventually, but I'm still unpmeloyed (friggin nwpa = no jobs at all) and I need hard drives first (completely out of space now) and I would need a new PSU when i get new graphics (only have 400watt now)

Halo 1 and Unreal 2004 both worked online

Apart from the graphics card. But I can't see how you can play UT2004 etc online but BF2 causes you problems. Have you been able to play BF2 MP before or is this happening for the first time?
