DDR266 and AMD Athlon XP gigabyte mobo

Hi there,

I'd like to buy a Gygabyte mobo for AMD Athlon XP 3000+ ('recommended' FSB 333 or 400), but would like to 're-use' a 512MB DDR266 memory stick from old mobo (Elitegroup K7S5A, XP 1700+, FSB133 memory AND cpu).

I'm aiming at GA-7N400-pro2 or GA-7VT600P-RZ.

QUESTION: Is it possible to use DDR266 and Athlon XP 3000+ in these gygabyte motherboards without a serious loss of performance? (e.g. different FSB for memory and CPU)

I assume the answer is 'yes', but would like to know the different possibilities (jumpers bios multipliers...) and respective drawbacks in these gygabyte mobo's.

The 'happy' answer I'd enjoy to listen would be like this: "Yes, you can combine DDR266 and Athlon XP 3000+ with those Gygabyte mobo's. In fact, you can set independent FSB for memory and CPU; you will really notice small performance loss compared to using DDR333 or 400. The CPU (XP 3000+) will run at full speed".

I have searched a lot, but can't find really *clear* answers to my doubts, for example:

(a) If FSB for CPU is set to 266 (133): Is it automagically (bios / clock multipliers) set internally so [equivalent] *full speed* of XP 3000+ can be achieved?

(b) If CPU FSB=400 and DDR FSB=266 (so they run asynchronously): Is there a serious performance loss compared to 400/400 ?

This is from AMD website....
Recommended Speeds:
AMD Athlon™ XP 3200+ (400 FSB)
AMD Athlon™ XP 3000+ (400 FSB)
AMD Athlon™ XP 3000+ (333 FSB)
AMD Athlon™ XP 2800+ (333 FSB)
AMD Athlon™ XP 2700+ (333 FSB)
AMD Athlon™ XP 2600+ (333 FSB) Model 8
AMD Athlon™ XP 2600+ (333 FSB) Model 10
AMD Athlon™ XP 2600+ (266 FSB)
AMD Athlon™ XP 2500+ (333 FSB)

(c) Regarding above info, Is it smarter in my case just to buy XP 2600+ (266 FSB) so CPU and DDR266 memory stick will run synchronously, achieving 'almost same' [negligible less] performance as above 3000+?

Thanks for any help. Don't hesitate to use technical terms... or give links, if they are really good ones
