driver help!!!!

Ok on my computer i didnt use to have sound and i went to every forum telling people to help me but they couldnt so i took my computer to school and he fix my sound and some other stuff like he upgraded me to windows 2000. well the problem is when i took my computer home and plug up everything including the dsl cable when it get to the start up screen it freezes but when i take the dsl cable out and start up the computer it works. so i plug the dsl cable back in and went to safe mode and now im trying to ask people to tell me how to fix it. the other problem is that something is wrong with my pictures i cant see then they like blurry. i think he said i dont have all my colors or somthing like that. i think he said that every computer has about 16 million colors and on mines i have like 16 and he told me i had to download something and i dont know what to download so can someone please help by telling me what to download and get me out of this safe mode thang
