Drive recovery

My hard drive was installed in an XP system.
Since then my motherboard fried.
I am now trying to read my hard drive from the XP system on a Windows ME system.
I tried a NTFS reader program, but my drive was recognized as FAT12.
When I am booting up the drive is recognized and shows up as what it is and the size is correct, but in Windows ME, it isn't there.
Even in DOS, I cannot get into it.

Please, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you very much!
