Mpeg's and AVI files causes computer to crash
![]() Hello, New to the forum and going crazy with my computer. I have had it for close to a year and have never had any problems with it. The video card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 128MB RAM. I cannot play most media files....in fact simply launching the Limewire p2p program causes my monitor to flicker and the computer eventually reboots. I have updated my drivers on the nvidia website. Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest and greatest codec packs. I have also used various screen refresh rates from 60 to 70 to 75 etc... to no avail. Here's the weird thing. I have a little home network setup and can remote desktop to my server and run avi and mpegs all day long on the same monitor. I'm certain that rules the monitor out... Would it also rule out the video card? Any help would be great. Thanks! |

Hi,
What about Direct X, do you have it installed and what version? |

Directx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Still not working. Maybe this thing has a mind of its own :0 because the very minute I asked for assistance...now it immediately restarts when attempting to play any type of video file.

Acceleration Settings
By sliding acceleration settings all the way to the left under the advanced/display/troubleshoot tab in the display properties I am able to watch video files. What could have a caused a differnce from then and now?

It is most likely caused by older codecs interacting with newer video card drivers. Try this download...
