Can't watch videos

Hey,

I'm not to familiar with computers but I do know how to get around them. Anyway the PC's been running fine for a while and all of a sudden whenever I play a video be it instantly or 2-20 minutes later these vertical lines apear and a loud sound is played before a crash. Can't do anything with the PC other than restart it. I've tried absolutely everything that I can including a reformat yet the error still occurs. I'm thinking its a graphics card error. Not sure though because if I watch a video on youtube or places like that its all fine. It's just when I used a player like VLC, WMP or WinAmp.

Any idea how to fix this? I'd usually hand it in for repair but due to me having an insane amount of uni work to do I can't really afford to give the pc away for a few days.

Thanks.
