Hi xtremenorthwest. Try booting from your Vista DVD and click on “Repair your computer”, click on Next and choose Startup Repair. It may take quite a while to complete and you may be asked to reboot several times. You may also be presented with an option to use System Restore during the process. Click Cancel as there is another option that can be used if the repair is not successful.
If the repair doesnt work, you will be presented with a new screen telling you that Windows Could not repair automatically. Click on View advanced options for system recovery and support and then click on System Restore and follow the prompts. Give it a try and let us know how you get on. |

Do you remember compressing your hard drive????????
If the above doesn't do it then try this. Boot with the Vista DVD, when it enters Setup hit your SHIFT-F10 keys Setup will run "cmd", and drops you to a command prompt that is running with SYSTEM privileges. Then at the command prompt type the following (hitting <enter>) after each line.: attrib bootmgr -s -r -h del bootmgr ren temp bootmgr attrib bootmgr -a +s +r +h |

here is the answer
he he, hi first post,
this is how you fix it get to the command prompt screen and type bootrec /fixboot also bootrec /fixmbr for the hell of it this is for anybody who might still need this or who will need it in the future. I got that same error message after compressing my drive to "save space" and then getting tired of waiting and cancelling in the middle. he he yeah I know but it only took me a half hour to fix. thanks to all and lets keep spreading the knowledge (youll need the installation dvd) [i think] |

Heh, I found an easier way to fix this, and registered just to tell you, ><.
Boot from the Vista DVD. Click 'Repair my Computer' At the prompt to select your OS installation, click the button that says 'Load Drivers'. This should bring up a explorer-style drive browser. Then just right-click on the drive you tried to compress, and deselect 'Compress this Drive', which should still be ticked on. Hit apply, and apply to subfolders/files. Reboot. Fixed it for me in a hurry, hope this helps someone else. -knarfishness |

I am having the same problem as above. I tried repairing first and that didnt work, then I tryed System restore to a date before I compressed the drive and still no luck. Now every time that I press something in the boot screen such as F8 to get to boot area, the computer restarts. So I cant even type anything to fix it, any ideas?
Thanks, Xauwoo |
