With regard to connecting external hard disk drives to PC's - which is better , which is faster - USB 2 or Firewire.

"Firewire is a tad slower than USB2; it's only 400mbps compared to USB2's 480mbps"
Hope that helps.

Thanks. I am supprised that Firewire is slower than USB2 considering it was provided as the solution for digital video interface. But I suppose time and technology marches on.

Firewire is theoretically slower, but when comparing the two in reality, Firewire is actually generally faster - it has to do with the way a PC uses Firewire. It's kind of like the way AMD processors are clocked slower, but are still on par with their "faster" Intel counterparts. Thus if you want the fastest solution, have a choice between USB2 and Firewire, and aren't concerned about portability (because more PCs have USB than they do Firewire), Firewire is the way to go.
