I wouldn't use it until the fan is replaced.

A fan freak-out

I also bought a Toshiba Satellite in 2004, and recently I have been having problems with the fan. No error message, the fan just cranks up for a little while then everything shuts down. This only happens when I using programs that need some CPU results - lately I haven't really been able to to a Norton Virus scan as the system shuts off before it can finish.

Any ideas of what I can try?
