IE locks up

I have a desktop at our church used just for services. It's running XP Pro. The Windows updates were terribly behind so we worked for a few days to get them updated. We also have a wireless network and we use(d) it quite frequently to download stuff for worship on the fly, as well as to get new material onto this desktop. It still works fine and my connection is excellent, however when I open up IE it just freezes (white screen, just toolbars) and I have to reboot. I tried to uninstall and reinstall IE but no go. Any ideas?

Yep, ditch IE and use Firefox;

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

At least as a workaround until IE is repaired.

In Control Panel>Internet Options [Network and Internet Options] you could check your homepage is legitimate and/or change it to something else. Also delete all files, cookies and clear history.

Check for any browser hijacks using 'AdAware' or 'Spybot Search and Destroy', run a full virus check, also check for any suspicious Start Up entries using Run>msconfig.
