Desktop/Downloads

Currently my downloads go into a Downloads folder inside my Documents folder. I'd like to have my Downloads go directly to my Desktop as they'll be a lot easier to unzip and work with there but I don't know how to do that. Any advice will be muchly appreciated. Thank you.

usually when you download you are given the opportunity to browse to another location to save the file in. Once you do that, it should be automatic the next time.

What browser do you use to download with?

In Firefox, click on Tools>Options. In the window that opens, click on "Main" up at the top (it might already be selected).

In the middle sections headed "Downloads," change the path in the "Save files to" field either by typing it in or using the Browse button. Once you have the changes you want, click OK.

Keep in mind that an occasional installation file will not work correctly when run from the Desktop folder.

Also note that the Desktop folder is treated somewhat differently than other folders. Anything kept on the Desktop (and therefore in the Desktop folder) increases the size of what must be loaded for your user account. In other words, the more data on the Desktop, the longer it will take Windows to load.
