Vista Home-msword
On my vista Home computer when I create a document in msword - which came with the computer - I attach it to an email the person I send to can’t open the document. I’m not sure whether this is because of the msword or because of the email. I’m using hotmail to attach files. It is word 2007 and they are trying to open it on a 2002... Any way to get around this problem?
Thanks, Last edited by boyleswhite; July 16th, 2008 at 09:53 PM. |

You did not say what version of msword but since it came with your vista computer I am guessing that its 2007. If this is the case, make sure the person you are sending it to also has msword2007 otherwise they will not be able to open it.
Try saving it as a word2002 document and resend it. |

Yes, the problem is with trying to open a Word 2007 file using Word 2002.
See the Microsoft page, Open a Word 2007 document in an earlier version of Word. Your friend will need to download and install the "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint File Formats" in order to open documents you create with Word 2007. The Compatibility Pack is free so don't let them get misled by the link at the bottom of that page to "Download a free trial." That's to get a free trial of Office 2007. Anyone you're sending documents to should also read that entire page as it contains information about things that will not convert. |

Can i just save it as a .doc rather than .docx?

With the document open and you click Save As, look for a "Save as type" drop-down menu. When that menu is expanded (click on the tiny down arrowhead at the right-hand end of the field), if .doc is there, click on it once to select it. Then click the Save button. That should save it as a .doc file.
