Newly built comp bios screen keeps freezing
I just built my first computer and my bios screen keeps locking up. I attempted to install windows but it too freezes on the blue setup screen. I have no idea what to do, somebody please help me!! AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, Asus M2N-E,
Corsair XMS2 1GB (2 x 512Mb) DDR2 800mhz. |

You've got a lot to check out. I would suggest you start with memory. Try testing your memory with memtest86. Read the readme docs., download it, copy to a floppy and follow directions to test the memory modules.

Something is keeping the computer from running very long. Two things to check first, to keep it on long enough to test components: did you put thermal paste on the CPU die under the heatsink? and are the standoffs positioned correctly on the back of the motherboard so they are not shorting the circuits (except ground) to the case?
Once you get the computer to stay on long enough to troubleshoot, read the troubleshooting sticky at the top of this forum and follow the steps. Good luck! Let us know how you fare. |
