exactly what dell laptop do you have? how big is your c drive and how much free space is on it? if you have not done a defrag, give it a try and see if it helps. go into safemode and see if it is any faster.

vista moving slow

thanks for your reply
I have an INSPIRON E1505 for about 8 years, but it does most of what i need.
I replaced the hard drive about 3 years ago, so i have a 500gb hard drive with 339gb free.
I try to defrag on safe mode, but did not work, so i rebooted and defrag. I hope this work. I will not be able to check 'till this evening.
again thanks for your advice.

I meant was the computer faster in safemode?

how many antiviruses do you have installed? if more than one, uninstall all but one. How much ram do you have on it? specs says it came with 512 megs. If that is what you have, it is time to add more if you don't want to replace the laptop. I would suggest maxing it out to 2 gigs. this might be why it is freezing.

I defrag, but apparently did not need it. after analyzing, the program said not needed. you are right my RAM was 512, but I upgraded to 2gb when i got the 500gb hard drive.
I have AVG and malwarebytes only.
the laptop was running a little faster in safe mode, and did not freeze. i ran some utube videos and no problem.
however when i rebooted it was fast enough 'till i loaded google, it froze for a couple seconds, however it actually moved faster overall.
i don't think i have a virus, but not quite sure what else i can upgrade other than getting a new laptop.
do you have any suggestions?
thanks

there really is nothing else you can upgrade. one thing you can do is to post in the malware section and let them check to see if there is any malware on your system that your regular scans would miss.
